Shihan George Picard

Shihan George Picard began training in Goju Ryu Karate under Bob Dalgliesh in Sudbury, Ontario. He is the head instructor for Goju Ryu Karate, Kobudo, Tai-Chi and Qiqong at Glenridge Martial Arts Academy. He also trains in Iaijutsu, Kenjutsu, Kendo and Jiu-Jitsu.

Shihan Picard also competes internationally and has placed in the top 3 in every tournament he has entered except one. An international coach and judge, he received an International Coaching Award from the Government of Venezuela and the World Congress of Martial Arts in 2001.

Shihan Picard is also a gifted qiqong healer and trains and teaches gigong healing arts to cancer patients at his school and clinics throughout the Greater Toronto Area. He has received numerous awards from various organizations for his work in the community and abroad.

In 2001, he produced "Arts of the Ancient East", a full stage production featuring top martial artists to raise money for Hospice Niagara. This show was so well received that he is now producing "Arts of the Ancient East II".

Professor William C. Gill
Kendo

Professor William C. Gill is a 8th Dan in Jiu-Jitsu and has his 2nd Dan in Kendo. Since 1989 he has been the head instructor of the St. Catharines Kendo Club which practices at the Glenridge Martial Arts Academy. He has played Kendo since 1972 and has an extensive background in other martial arts and sports.

Professor Gill developed the style of Misu  Ryu Jiu-Jitsu. From 1972 - 1997 he taught martial arts to St. Catharines Police Force, (later the Niagara Regional Police Force), Ontario Police College, Lincoln and Welland Regiment ( Reserve Unit) and Emergency Task Force and Special Interest Groups. Since 1980 he has been the Head Instructor of the Regional Niagara Jiu Jitsu Centre. In 2000 he was a field trainer for Baden K-9 and Tactical Schools pertaining to Handler Unarmed Combat for members in the field. He also taught the handler Unarmed Combat Course at the Swale Martial Arts Club for various martial art styles as well as the Royal Ulster Constabulary. In 2001 he taught the Misu Ryu Ju Jitsu system of Police controls and Restraints at the Atlantic Police Academy for the Justice Institute of Canada. He also instructs students of the Robert Land Academy in the system of Misu Ryu Ju Jitsu Unarmed Combat Course.

In 2001 he received a plaque for dedication to Officer Safety and Police Self Defense through 30 years of Martial Arts from Police Chief Gary Nicholls and members of the Niagara Regional Police Services. He was awarded International Grand Master of the Year Jiu Jitsu from Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame June 29th 2002.
